WELCOMING BABY DON: A SPECIAL IN-HOME NEWBORN SESSION
There’s something special about being invited into a family’s home during those first few weeks with a newborn. It’s tender, a little chaotic, and filled with so many different emotions, and baby Don’s session was the perfect reflection of all of that.
Sweet Don was born on April 4th, and he is already so deeply adored by his parents, Adelina and Dylan, and his proud big siblings, Aleya and Deen. I’ve known Adelina and Dylan since 2018. we actually met at a dog park (the very same place where I met my husband!), and over the years, we’ve shared and witnessed so many different seasons of life together. Being able to document yet another chapter for their family felt incredibly meaningful to me.
Their home was the most beautiful setting for this session. Tall ceilings, and big open windows that allowed the light to pour in and fill each space with a perfect soft and warm glow. The neutral, earthy tones throughout made for the perfect backdrop.
We kept the session relaxed and baby-led, embracing all the real moments as they came. Of course, like any session with a newborn and siblings, there were a few little challenges along the way. Some baby tears, a couple of spit-up breaks, and the classic task of getting everyone to sit still at the same time. Aleya, confidently stepping into her role as the older, independent big sister, wasn’t exactly interested in being told what to do, and honestly, that just added to the authenticity of this session.
But in between those moments were the sweetest glimpses of connection. One of the highlights was watching Aleya gently hold and kiss her new baby brother. It was such a pure and genuine expression of love. The kind of moment that doesn’t need direction, just a little space to unfold, which i think is super important when photographing families with young children. Deen, on the other hand, was more interested in jumping on the couches and bed. What a joy it was to see him smile!!
It’s really important that baby gets a chance to rest during these sessions as well. That being said, it’s the perfect excuse to utilize the beautiful wicker bassinet that Adelina found on Facebook Marketplace prior to Don’s arrival (because who doesn’t love a good FB market place find). It added a natural, textured element to the session and fit perfectly within the warmth of their home. Sessions like this are a reminder that perfection isn’t the goal, Connection is. The cries, the laughter, the movement, and even all that chaos, come together to tell the story.
Adelina and Dylan, thank you for trusting me once again to capture your beautiful family. It means so much to not only witness, but preserve these moments in time for you. Baby Don is already surrounded by so much love, and it was truly an honor to document the beginning of this new chapter.
If you’re expecting or recently welcomed a new baby, in-home newborn sessions are such a great way to capture your family just as it is. These early days pass go quickly, but the memories can last forever!
